Joe Leavell First To Cross the Bridge
The second trip for the sprinters to Natural Bridge on a perfect day had a first time winner as local favorite Joe Leavell was first at the Bridge. Heats kicked off the night as Leavell won the first and Jerald Harris took number two. Bill Rice and Caleb Harris paced the feature with Rice like a bullet out first leading but soon to be joined with Jerald Harris and Joe Leavell not letting him get away. Rice was great lap after lap as Harris and Leavell were closing in. Rice was still leading but there was no room for error as the three were all under a blanket with Leavell low and Harris up high. With the end coming quick Leavell was making his move low on Rice as Harris made a move high but slipped and brushed the wall. Leavell was now leading as Harris gathered up and was on Rice for second. Harris got by and took off after the lead as Rice stayed with him. Harris was coming with traffic everywhere as the lead group made it’s way through. Harris got closer as the white flag waved but not enough as Joe Leavell flashed under the waving checkered flag for his first win. At the stripe it was Joe Leavell, Jerald Harris, Bill Rice, Daren Bolac, Lance Christie, Matt Mullins, Billy Hubbard, Gareth Palmer, Caleb Harris, Chris Ware, Bill Mullis and Aaron Leach. The VSS takes off a few weeks before heading back to Hagerstown Speedway in Maryland on Saturday night June 18th for Father’s Day Weekend sprint car spectacular as the VSS, LHSS and PASS IMCA RaceSaver groups all attending
