Zach Newlin Leads the Way to Win
Zach Newlin was able to overcome all the sprinters on hand on night one plus a bad case of the flu to take the win of the first annual East Coast Sprint Nationals. Heats kicked off the night with Brad Mellott, Jac Gomola, Jonathan Jones and Jared Zionkowski taking those. Dylan Proctor and Newlin lead the field to green to start the feature with Newlin up top and leading the early laps. Ken Duke had started deep in the field and was really on the move and using the low line had worked his way to second by lap ten bringing Christian Rumsey with him as well as Scott Lutz. The field was closing up before a caution came out making it a run to the checkers. Newlin had been leading but was coming under threat before and now it was nose to tail as it went green. Newlin up high and Duke on the bottom with Rumsey and Lutz right there, Duke kept the pressure on getting even coming off turn four almost every lap but with the checkered flag waving Newlin got the best medicine he could have with the win.
