The 2025 RaceSaver Nationals Champion is…….. TBD

By Greg Soukup

It was a long day Friday at Eagle Raceway. With very bad weather forecasts for Sunday and beyond, we were forced to run both the Friday and Saturday portions of the 13th Annual IMCA Racesaver Sprint Car Nationals in one day. We kicked off the Friday portion with 104 racers competing in 14 heats, 6 preliminary features followed by the 24 car A Feature that would help to set the lineup for the $13,000 to win Big Dance, where the field will start 3-wide.

There were 3 incidents in the preliminary races. In heat 3 Jacob Allen’s 05 came into contact with the #23 of Brandon Bosma in turns 3 & 4, sending them both flipping. In the second D Feature, Bruce Allen went for a ride in the 55; flipping in turn 4. Lastly, Monty Feriera’s 45 wheel-hopped the left rear of Peyton White’s 46 and flipped in turn 1. Later, the 99 of Mitchell Dvorak caught the wall in turn 3 and flipped in turn 4. None of the drivers were seriously injured.

In the Friday A Main Bill Johnson’s 56, the 5 of Stu Snyder, DJ Estes in the 74 and Kevin Ramey were the first 4 back to the flag stand on lap 1. Ramey moved up to third on lap 3 but the pass was negated when Landon Thompson’s 31 caught the Armco in turn 3, climbed the wall and ended up on the grass by the fence. At the same time Chad Wilson’s #20 made contact with the 4X of Jason Danley at the bottom of turn 4, slowing them and causing Lee Goos Jr.’s 17L to spin and collect Nick Barger’s #14. That brought out the Eastepwheels.com Choose Cone. The subsequent lineup saw a top 4 of Johnson, Snyder, Ramey and Estes. The restart saw Ty Ledger spin to a stop in the pit entrance with a flat left rear tire. Ramey moved up to third on the restart. Adam Gullion passed Estes the next lap to put the #91 into fourth. Carson Bolden got past Gullion on lap 9 to take over fourth place and moved up to third the next lap. Bolden continued his march to the front, passing Snyder for second 2 laps later and grabbing the lead on lap 14. Ramey moved up to third with 10 to go and took second away from Johnson 2 laps later. Gullion moved back up to fourth with 6 circuits remaining and advanced to third with 2 to go but the #1 of Mike Boston made hard contact with the rear of Goos, sending Goos spinning in turn 1. That set up a green/white/checkered dash to the finish. Gullion passed Snyder on the restart to make your final 4 Bolden, Ramey, Gullion and Snyder. The other 5 cars to make the final A Main Saturday were Johnson, Bubak, Brady Donnohue’s 34DD, Estes and the 25 of Chase Brewer.

Carson’s win came from outside row 6 on the starting grid. “We had to pass a bunch of cars to get to the front. We got there about halfway through the race. Our car was really good tonight. We were really fast through the middle and right around the top.” I asked him what his chances were for the Sunday/Saturday final A Feature were and he said “With these dashes I should start in the front for six laps, so if I can hold on for a top 3 I should start on the pole. Last year was my first year here and I ran 10th so I think we have a really good chance. First and foremost, I want to thank Daryl and Ian Kannady. They gave me a beast. This engine is just a beast! Also, all of the people that help me out. There are so many people who help out with giving me what it takes to get around the racetrack.”

Carson’s sponsors include Pro Designs Signs and Graphics, Hinson Contractors, Baxter Motorsports, Griffith Truck and Equipment, Advanced Steel Buildings, Pro Roofing and Construction, Morris Motorsports, KR Promotions, Kannady Racing Engines and JNE Automotive.

The grandstands were cleared so that the Saturday portion of the Nationals could begin. There were also 3 incidents in the preliminary action this session. In heat 8 Braxton Weger’s 31BW made contact with the 2D of Dusty Ballenger, sending Ballenger spinning and collecting Tyler Harris’ 24T who had a soft rollover. Next, in heat 9 Steven Richardson was leading the field in his 20C when on the last lap as he was going through turns 3 and 4 his car suddenly drove headlong straight into the wall on the front stretch and ended up rolling over. None of the drivers were seriously injured.

The Saturday portion A Main’s first lap saw Jacob Dye’s 20D wheel hop the 1B of Brandon Horton and hit Justin Bolte’s 17 due to his broken front end. Dye went to the pits on the hook. The Choose Cone was set on the front stretch and the restart lineup was the O7 of Owen Carlson, Tanner Andersen’s 5T, Ethan Barrow in the 14B and the J2 of John Carney II. Barrow spun to a stop in turn 2 on the restart after hard contact with Andersen who then spun to a halt. Jeremy Huish’s 88J and the 18W of Cole Wayman also came to a stop in 1 and 2. As the field slowly rolled into position for a restart the 69 of Mike Moore went flipping sideways on the front stretch. The top 4 were Carlson, Carney II, Gunnar Pike in the 25X and Peyton White’s 46. Johnny Boos got past White to put the 24B into fourth. Joey Danley’s 14X joined the top 4 on lap 11. Carney took the lead on lap 14. Danley moved up to third with 9 to go and took over second 2 laps later. At the checkers it was Carney II, Danley, Carlson, Pike, Boos, White, Trevor Grossenbacher’s 35, the X of Dylan Waxdahl and Tyler Drueke’s 12T making the A Feature finale for the crown on Saturday.

Next was the A for the Valentino’s IMCA Hobby Stocks. The 98 of Dalton Young, David Carter’s 2C, Dan Markham in the #6 and Tyler Phelps’ 7X led lap 1. Phelps passed Markham on lap 5 to move up to third. With 7 to go Carter passed Young for the lead but lost the spot back to him the following circuit. 3 laps later Carter spun in turn 4, collecting Phelps. That made your top 4 Young, Markham, the 3N of Neil Pella and the 11 of Eric Chab. Young spun all by himself in turn 4 on the restart. The restart order was Markham, Pella, Chab and Ben Becher in the B4. The top 4 remained unchanged to the checkers with Markham taking home the win, Pella second, Chab third and Becher fourth.

This was Dan’s first ever feature win at Eagle. He stated “Yes sir! It feels pretty good. We got the backup car out this week because the mechanic’s race last week didn’t go so well. My mechanic decided that he needed to stick that car’s nose into the turn 2 wall. So, we brought this car out here. We didn’t know what we’d have because we’d never run this car this year but we pulled off the W! I want to thank my brother who loaned me a motor this year. My son-in-law and my Dad. Of course, my wife. She puts up with a lot because I’m in the shop a lot.” Dan’s sponsors include Henry Hobscheit Motors, Front Line Gun Works and Michaels Garage.

The last race of the evening was the RaceJugs Race of Champions. John Carney II took off from the front row to put the J2 out front of lap 1 followed by the 23 of Brandon Bosma, the 1 of Mike Boston and the 56 of Bill Johnson. Johnson moved up to third on lap 2. Tyler Drueke got past Boston for fourth on lap 8. Johnson passed Bosma for second with 4 to go. 2 laps were left when Drueke also passed Bosma, this time for third. Your final top 4 were Carney II, Johnson, Drueke and Bosma.

I thanked John for picking up the double because that meant I only had 3 interviews to do. He smiled and said “Actually, we were pretty good for the Friday portion but we got caught up in a wreck in the B so that was the end of that for us. The Saturday portion started off good with a heat race win and us starting sixth in the A. The start was kind of hectic but we got to the lead 7 or 8 laps in. I don’t think that I drove away from them but we were good enough to win. About the same in the Race of Champions where I got to the lead right away and held them off.” I asked him what his chances were for the Big Dance and he said “We’re pretty good. We’re more than likely starting a little further back than I’d like to, depending on how the King of the Hill goes because those are kind of hectic. But we’ll be alright. The feature is a long one with lots of laps and the King of the hill will sort out some stuff. We should be good.” John’s sponsors include Taco Casa, Mesilla Valley Transportation, Triple X Raceco, Craig Meyers Racing Engines and Momentum Racing Suspensions.

The final 3 rows for the Sunday/Saturday A Feature were up for grabs the following day. With a large fear of the weather, it was decided to start at 11:00 in order to beat the impending storms.

2 D Features and 2 C Features were run, allowing 4 teams to advance to the next feature from each, all of them hoping to be the one that makes the run through the alphabet soup and make it to the Big Dance and a shot at the $13,000 top prize.

Following those were 4 dashes to determine the starting spots in the first 6 rows of the A Feature. Each of the first 3 allowed 2 drivers to move on to the next dash. Every spot gained meant another advance in your starting grid position. At the finish of the dashes Carson Bolden’s B2, John Carney II in the J2 and the 14X of Joey Danley would make up the front row for the 3-wide start of the 40 lap A Main.

Next was the B Main that would send 9 more drivers to the A and make up the final 3 rows for the Feature. It began to drizzle early in the race, but the competition was completed. The decision was made to skip the final fluff and buff session in hopes of beating the weather. 24 teams rolled onto the high banks and were eventually pushed off to help keep the track in raceable condition. The rain continued and the drivers were then told to pull into the infield to park and a rain delay was called. The rain continued and despite Roger Hadan and the track prep crew’s valiant effort the decision was reached that the track had been lost to Mother Nature’s wrath.

Fear not though, as the 2025 IMCA Racesaver Champion will be crowned. When the cancellation of the A Feature was made official it was announced that The 2025 RaceSaver Nationals Main Event will be on Thursday, September 3rd, 2026, as a part of the Thursday Portion of the RaceSaver Nationals after practice is completed.

RaceSaver went ahead and sponsored pay for the drivers that were supposed to start the Main Event $500 now. The qualified drivers will get the full purse for this main event in 2026 when the driver shows up and races. So, instead of the $1700 to start, they will actually end up with $2,200 minimum between the pay today and the start money for next year.

The starting lineup will be as follows:

Carson Bolden-B2  John Carney II-J2    Joey Danley-14X

Kevin Ramey-7M    Adam Gullion-91    Stuart Snyder-5

Owen Carlson-O7  Gunnar Pike-25X    Bill Johnson-56

Mark your calendars, get your vacation plans set up, tell your boss that you won’t be to work during Labor Day 2026 weekend and be ready for the chance to see not just 1, but 2 IMCA Racesaver Nationals champions be crowned.

Stay tuned to Eagle Raceway’s website https://www.eagleraceway.com/ and their Facebook page for details as they become available.

I personally and all of the fans want to thank the teams that towed from near and far to compete at this year’s IMCA Racesaver Nationals and I’m positive that I can add the drivers and teams when I say a huge thank you to Roger and Racine plus the Eagle Raceway staff  for their herculean attempt at getting the complete show in.

See you all next year!!!
