12th Annual RaceSaver Sprint Series Nationals
present by the National Guard
Fork Mountain Raceway Bassett, Va.

Tom Humphries Three-peat's Nationals

The 12th Annual RaceSaver Nationals ended up being one of the most
exciting to date as lap after lap the dicing for positions kept the
fans on their feet. The grand marshall for this event was JV Brotherton
of Brodix Cylinder Heads of Mena, Ark. Heats started the night with
John Matrifailo, Satch Worley and Ray Evernham taking those before it
was off to the Brodix dash for the top qualifiers which was won by Jeff
Van Steenburg. John Matrifailo and Brian Lawson paced the fifty lap
feature and first out was Matrifailo with everybody right with him
because a full field of cars on the quick Fork Mountain Raceway it
means catching traffic really quick. Matrifailo looked strong for the
first twenty laps moving through taffic and keeping the lead just by
inches but just about halfway he was slipping up and Brian Lawson and
front bunch went by. Lawson was leading now but the race for second on
back was changing every foot and with fifteen to go it was a fight to
the finish with Lawson, Evernham, Van Steenburg, Matrifailo and
Humphries just having at it. Humphries went low off turn four with a
few laps to go and went to the front leaving Lawson to duel with
Evernham and Matrifailo right behind. Humphries raced under the waving
checkered flag with Evernham, Lawson and Matrifailo right behind. At
the line it was Tom Humpries, Ray Evernham, Brian Lawson, John
Matrifailo, Satch Worley, Tony Harris, Glenn Worrell, Jerald Harris,
Daren Bolac, John Snead, Anthony Linkenhoker, Carl Simmonds, Scott
Vasbinder, Ryan Lynn, Eric Keck, Erin Statler, Keith Laird, Jeff Van
Steenburg, Billy Norfleet, Brian Morgan, Chris Ware, Ron Moyers and
Mark Watkins.

The Virginia Sprint Series takes off a week before heading back to the
last pavement show of the year at Old Dominion Speedway on Saturday
night September 18th.

Brian Lawson Sweeps Pavement Pounding Final

Brian Lawson swept the events for the second time this season but this
time it was on the pavement as before he did the same at Dixieland
Speedways dirt surface back in June. Heats kicked off the night with
Chris Ware taking the first and Lawson in heat two. For the final
pavement feature of the year Charlie Ware and Chris Ware lead the pack
to the green with Chris out first and the train race was on. Ware was
under pressure right from the start and on lap three Anthony
Linkenhoker took over the top spot. Linkenhoker was out front but Billy
Norfleet was chasing him down and by lap ten Norfleet got around but he
couldn't get away either because Lawson was mounting a charge. The
front bunch was all over Norfleet as the laps were flashing by but it
would not be his night as Lawson would not give up and on lap twenty
five he went low and in to the lead. Lawson was leading with Norfleet
trying to fight back and now Jerald Harris and French Grimes were
closing in but with the checkered flag flying Brian Lawson flashed
across the finish line first. At the line it was Brian Lawson, Billy
Norfleet, Jerald Harris, French Grimes, Tony Harris, Anthony
Linkenhoker, Chris Ware,Carl Simmonds, Brian Morgan, Ron Moyers,
Charlie Ware, Tom Humphries
and Keith Laird.

Jerald Harris is a Smooth Operator

A cool autumn evening and a perfect Eastside Speedway surface made for
a fast feature and smooth drivers were rewarded with the top spots.
Keith Laird and John Snead paced the field to the green with Laird was
out front at the start but not for long as he slowed by lap five with
problems. The front pack was now Chris Ware, Scott Vasbinder, Ray
Evernham and Jerald Harris. Evernham made short work getting to the
front but Harris was not far behind as Vasbinder followed Harris
through. Harris was working on Evernham and went low and in to the lead
on lap thirteen. Harris was inching away from Evernham but as the laps
wound down Evernham was now under pressure from back row starter French
Grimes. With the white flag waving Grimes went low and set off to chase
Harris. Harris was not to be caught this night and flashed under the
checkered flag first. At the line it was Jerald Harris, French Grimes,
Ray Evernham, Scott Vasbinder, Chris Ware, Brian Lawson, Carl Simmonds,
Tony Harris, Bill Rice, John Snead, Brian Morgan, Ron Moyers, Tom
Humphries, Billy Norfleet, Anthony Linkenhoker, Daren Bolac and Kieth
Laird.
